IT COULD all but be over in the Castle Lager Premiership this Sunday
as log leaders FC Platinum face relegated Shabanie Mine, needing just
to avoid defeat to win their second consecutive crown.
So dominant has been FCP that, coupled with coaching changes at Ngezi
Platinum, they now lead the standings with 71 points, nine away from
their second placed rivals.
Now, that feeling of going back to Africa as champions is back and
they could do it at the home of their struggling rivals Shabanie Mine.
To push FCP coach Norman Mapeza to tell you that he wants to win it
this Sunday, is nearly impossible.
As diplomatic as ever.
“To us, it’s a derby, but it’s like any other match we have been
playing this season. So preparations are the same. We chose to focus
on our own preparedness and how best we can get a positive result from
“We are not looking over our shoulders to see what the next guy is
doing, but just us only,” the 2008 league title winner with Monomotapa
While obviously all eyes will be at Zvishavane, Ngezi will be looking
to get their first win under coach Clifton Kadurira since he replaced
Tonderayi Ndiraya before the international break.
Ngezi literally handed over the league title to FCP last weekend when
they were held to a 2-2 draw by Harare City while FCP blitzed Chicken
Inn 2-0 at Mandava.
Ngezi and FCP clash at Mandava next Saturday and if the league title
is undecided this weekend, then it could be the following weekend.
And one man carrying the hopes of FCP is reigning Soccer Star of the
Year Rodwell Chinyengetere, who scored his 17th goal of the season
last weekend and remains on top of the pile to clinch the Golden Boot,
and possibly the best player of the year.
Shabanie Mine, Mutare City Rovers and Bulawayo City have already been
relegated and Nichrut could follow them back to Division One if they
lose to Herentals and Chapungu, Yadah, Bulawayo Chiefs, Dynamos and
ZPC Kariba win their matches.
